Oakley boys Under 13's fought back after a disastrous start to record victory over Overton in a tightly fought match at Dummer this evening. Oakley got off to a terrible start when in form batsman Bradley Coates was out to a fine delivery for 0. Things got worse for Oakley when Alex Blackall (5), Julian Worthington (8) and George Lethaby (1) were all needlessly ran out. This left Matt Vickers with George Lethaby as his runner to try to compile a decent total. Matt finished 14 - not out as Oakley completed their innings with a total of 86.
Oakley needed a brilliant bowling and fielding performance to have any chance of victory and produced team effort to make their manager proud. Opening bowling from Julian Worthington and James Lancaster kept the batsman at bay and as Overton began to chase the game, they started feeling the pressure. Three run-outs and fine wickets for George Lethaby and the excellent Julian Worthington turned the game towards Oakley's way.
Matt Vickers and James Lancaster bowled the tenth and eleventh overs tightly, leaving George Lethaby the last over to bowl. Under enormous pressure, he went for just five off the over to secure victory and a fine an all-round performance by all the boys. Notable contributions from Alex Blackall and Bradley Coates in the field did not go unnoticed as the bowlers recieved the support required to make it a great night for all.
